Jacksons Opticians has been practising for over 50 years. In March 2014, the present owners and brothers-in-law, Matt Woolhouse and Robert Blow, bought the practice.

About Us

Jacksons Opticians has been practising for over 60 years. In March 2014, the present owners and brothers-in-law, Matt Woolhouse and Robert Blow, bought the practice.

Matt is a fully qualified Ophthalmic Optician who lives locally and worked at Jacksons in the early 00s just before and after the move from the corner of George Street.

Matt qualified from the University of Bradford in 1992, and since passing his professional exams in 1993, he has been working as a full-time Optician. Matt is currently testing 5 days a week at the practice.

Robert has recently retired, being succeeded by his daughter, Optometrist Sophie Hughes, who is the managing director of DI Blow Opticians in and around Nottingham. Along with her brother Oliver Blow and sister Rebecca Blow, they now form the management team of our partner DI Blow Opticians. It really is a family business with Matt’s wife and daughter, Carol and Natalie, also helping in the practice.

Mrs Andrea Wilks is our full-time Dispensing Optician/Practice Manager. She is also a qualified Contact Lens Practitioner.

Alongside our professionally qualified staff, we also employ support staff who will look after you throughout your visit.

Joan Grayson and Sarah Casey-Kemp are our non-qualified Dispensers, and they can guide you through your spectacle choice from initial selection to fitting and collection. Joan has many years of professional experience and a great skill for knowing exactly which frames will suit every face.

Sarah is our most recent non-qualified dispenser and  has already worked in Optics for many years. Her calm manner will guide even the most nervous patient through the process of choosing and buying their new glasses.

On reception, you’ll find Emma, helped out by Carol and Natalie. Our Optical Assistants/reception staff will be able to assist you from booking your initial appointment to guiding you through our services and helping you complete any purchases you wish to make. They’ll also adjust your specs if needed.

It is this combination of business, professional, and experienced, friendly staff that we believe should make Jacksons your first (and only independent) choice for eye care in Glossop.

Fantastic, friendly and professional service received today by both Matt and Andrea. Polite, kind and caring and I felt comfortable in their care. Matt explained what he was doing and did a thorough check of my eyes when I went to him worried about headaches and he reassured me that my eyes are good and healthy. I visited Jackson’s in the past and Matt has always been friendly and supportive. Andrea was fantastic and she spent a lot of time with me whilst I tried on different glasses and there was absolutely no pressure. Andrea gave me all her time and was extremely supportive.

I can’t thank Andrea, Joe, Emma, and Sarah enough for their wonderful service. Although I forgot the optician’s name, he was very professional, ensuring my complicated multifocal glasses were done correctly from the start. I remember my previous experience with a big high street optician company, where I had to visit three times because my multifocal glasses were wrongly fitted. I even had to get my eyes tested twice with that company. In contrast, at Jacksons, I only saw the optician once, and my glasses were perfect with no faults. After using my glasses for a week, they unfortunately got scratched. I was quite upset and couldn’t figure out how it happened. When I went back to ask about the scratch, Andrea was there. She took the glasses from me and immediately said they would renew them. They are absolutely brilliant people working there.

I would give Jacksons Opticians more than 5 stars if this was an option. Excellent service provided by both Andrea and Matt - professional approach, expert knowledge and superb care all parcelled up in a welcoming and beautifully run environment. The only thing I am sorry about is that it has taken me so long to find them. They listen to your needs and concerns and tailor their advice to give you the best possible outcome and service. Thank you both very much.

I have worn contact lenses since 1994 and generally been quite happy with the results. I recently went to Jacksons opticians in Glossop and was seen by Andrea. I now realise that I have only ever had mediocre treatment and prescriptions. The care and detail that Andrea gave me is beyond good, its fantastic. My vision has never been better. I will never try another optician because I won't be able to better the best.
